Over the years my experience is that consumers believe cleaning products need to be harsh to be effective, and that expensive cleaning products are just a waste of money or ‘just for show’. This couldn’t be further from the truth and frankly, with the incredible rise of allergies and both mental and behavioural disorders that our families are experiencing, it is essential that we remove toxicity from our homes, of which often cleaning products harbour the most.
Here’s a few reasons to make you think about switching to 100% natural cleaning products:
+ Conventional cleaning products often contain harsh chemicals like ammonia, chlorine, and phthalates. These substances can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system, and have even been linked to longer-term health concerns such as hormone disruption and asthma. For children and pets—who spend more time close to the ground and put objects in their mouths—exposure can be especially risky.
+ Many household cleaners release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can linger in the air and affect air quality. By using natural, fragrance-free, or plant-based products, you help ensure your home’s air stays fresh and breathable. It’s not just about cleaning; it’s about making your home a true sanctuary.
+ What we use in our homes doesn’t stay there. Chemical cleaners often end up in waterways, harming aquatic life and disrupting ecosystems. In contrast, eco-friendly cleaning products are biodegradable and non-toxic, designed to break down safely without leaving a harmful trace.Choosing chemical-free options is a simple but powerful way to live more sustainably.
+There’s a common myth that natural cleaners can’t stand up to the grime. Many chemical-free products are highly effective and, in some cases, outperform their synthetic counterparts—especially with regular use. Ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils have been trusted for generations to clean and disinfect. And a major bonus is no overpowering artificial smells—just a naturally clean home.
Making the switch to chemical-free cleaning isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. Whether you're replacing one product at a time or overhauling your entire cleaning routine, every step counts. I tend to be sensitive to excema particularly on my hands and having used only natural cleaning products for the past decade I no longer get those skin irritaions.
I also find a lot of provenence in using natural products because they actually FEEL different, we have a couple of the Euclove woven cloths that we use for both daily kitchen counter wiping and another for dusting and cleaning other areas of the house, they just get thrown in the washing machine every week and then they're good as new. Wastage is less and it means we aren't constantly spending money on sponges that get thrown out.
With more accessible options than ever before, it's easier than you think to create a cleaner, safer, and healthier home. And planet.
